New Christmas Quote stamp from Darkroom Door

Darkroom Door have released another cute little quote stamp in time for Christmas crafting.

What a fun font! For my first sample, I have stamped this onto a gel printed background, then embossed with gold embossing powder:

 

You can see a little hint of the small Circles Stencil in the background there in blue:

 For my next project, I decided this stamp would be fabulous on a tag:

 and if you're making one, you'd might as well make many:

Here's how they came together:

Step 1
Scrape turquoise acrylic paint onto a gang of white tags using a palette knife or credit card. Leave lots of white space:

Step 2
Lightly sponge magenta acrylic paint through a stencil, concentrating on the white spaces left by the turquoise paint:

Step 3
Once this has dried well, separate the tags from each other and apply an antistatic pad, then stamp the quote using Embossing Ink. Emboss with gold embossing powder.

Step 4
Attach some coordinating lace trim under the quote. I used a sewing machine, but you could use glue, staples or a strong double sided tape.

Vintage French Tag

Loving the latest release of Spellbinders dies. Lots of lovely iconic shapes to create with....I'm in heaven!

This is a tag I made in a vintage French style:

 

It's a size 8 shipping tag, with Darkroom Door's French Script Texture stamp in black ink in the background. Papers from Prima's Cartographer 6x6 pad were then added, and the arrow and typewriter were cut from black cardstock. The feathers were cut from papers from the pad. The edges were all aged by sponging some brown ink on them.

Cutting shapes and then embossing while the die cut is in place really helps to bring out the detail in these amazing dies. Here's the typewriter and arrow:

  and here's a close up of the feathers. A light sponging with brown ink helps to accentuate the veins:

This tag can now be added to the front of a card, or even presented as is on a gift.

An altered tag swap

I'm on a bit of a hiatus at the moment - hospital stay, operation yada yada, and frustratingly I'm not getting much crafting done. These are some tags I put together for a swap a couple of weeks ago before I went in:

 

I used my 6x6 Gelli Plate and some acrylic paints to make the backgrounds before sponging some gesso through a stencil. Then I cut a window with a Spellbinders die to place over the book page and image, and finally added some flowers and seam binding. Here's a close up:

 They do appear to be upside down, but when I get the returns from the swap I plan to bind them in one of these doovies from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology line:

Mixed Media Background Prima Doll Tag

Well that was a long title!

Here's something we did in one of my classes late last year - we made our own mixed media backgrounds:

and then we used them to paper-piece parts of a Prima doll and made a tag:

Messy fun! The very best kind I say :)

Christmas gift giving set

Gift wrapping adds a whole other dimension to gift giving, and it could almost be put in a class of its own. I put together this little set to give to one of the teachers this Christmas:

Sticking to the one paper range/colour scheme and using the different sized Spellbinder dies in each set made putting this together a breeze. And the vintage Santa images from Darkroom Door were a perfect addition.

11th Hour Stampotique Designers Challenge

I made this tag for the Stampotique Designers Challenge Design Team Call using all the things I'm loving at the moment:

...paint, stencils, tags, collage, and most of all stamps! I used Jo's Star and Pigtails here, and outlined the stars with a white gel pen. The words 'live it up' come from the Sweet Treats wordstrip.

When I'm not designing with a particular audience and guidelines in mind, I think this collagey, painty, fun style is where my heart takes me. I would love to design for Stampotique because of the huge variety of images available - there really is something for everyone. I have admired the work of the design team for the longest time, and it would be an absolute honour to be among them.

Wish me luck with my entry, that I fear has just missed the deadline!

Halloween crafting with 100 Proof Press

One of the things I like most about working with a US company is the opportunity to do some Halloween projects. Here are some things I put together using 100 Proof Press stamps:

 

All of the patterned papers come from my Authentique Glowing 6x6 pad - love this colour combination! 

 

Here's a close up of the card. I used the Jumping Skeleton image with the Trick or Treat words. I also lightly stamped the Profit and Loss sheet in the background. The fancy element behind the words is a Spellbinders die : 

 

Here's the Moo card.  I used Spooking in a Nightshirt over the Profit and Loss Sheet background.  The little letters are from Prima:

Last but not least, here's the tag close up.  I used Flying Bat on the centre of the rosette, Trick or Treat words and the Witches on Broom border.

Queen of Tea and Cake Tag

I do love the idea of inviting friends around for afternoon tea. Or morning tea. Or whatever, as long as tea and cake are involved.

I found the perfect image in 100 Proof Press's extensive catalogue.  Meet Queen of Tea and Cake:

I made her into a tag with a shabby chic/vintage feel. I stamped her with Coffee Archival Ink, then made the background using Distress Inks on a craft sheet. A little lace, a seam binding bow and velvet ribbon together with some KaiserCraft flowers complete the look.  Here's a close up of the background:

That pink image is called Beet, and I inked it up with my Worn Lipstick Distress Marker and stamped it into the background to add a little colour to it.

I think I fell in love with the Queen image because it's sort of Marie Antoinette-ish, so I chose this SRM sticker for the sentiment. 

Done! Now to plan a menu and a little group of friends, and we can call it a party! Thanks for stopping by.
