Felted fingerless gloves

No more late nights at the computer with freezing cold hands for me! Check out these babies:

Wet felted fingerless gloves made by me, with help from Elizabeth Armstrong. The blue fluff I'm holding is the wool I used to make them. It still amazes me that it can go from soft fluff to tough felt in just a short time (with much rubbing and rolling in between).

I feel like a hippy wonder woman when I wear them LOL.

Just to clarify - there will be many more late nights at the computer for me, but I will be doing them with warm hands from now on :)

Thanks for looking!

Felt. Excited!

Tomorrow is my next felt class with the amazing Elizabeth Armstrong. I cannot tell you how excited I am.  This time I'm sharing the excitement with Robbo who is new to felting, and Lynne and Joy who did the last class with me. I took just a couple of pics during the last class.

Here's a pic of Joy examining her beautiful scarf:

and here's one of Lynne with her beautiful scarf (if she smiled any bigger the top of her head would fall off!):

Here's what I worked on:

It's an art doll, and in this photo I'm only half way through sewing its bottom on.  I plan to put a face on it, but I'm looking for the right elements. Besides, I can't sew a face on it until I assign a gender to it. What do you think, male or female?  And then it needs a name. Only then can I put a face on it.

I'll be back soon with pics of tomorrow's class - I can't decide what I want to make next - another scarf or some bowls. Mmmmm....decisions, decisions!

Fun felting

You'd be forgiven for thinking I had taken a little break from crafting over December, but I've actually been indulging another love of mine - felting.

I took another class with the amazing Elizabeth Armstrong together with my friend Greta, and I got hooked on scarves. I made each of the children's teachers a scarf for their end of year thank you gift, plus one for dear Lesley (owner of Little Bits). In the inevitable Christmas panic, I only managed to take a few (bad) photos of a couple of them. Here they are:

And this one didn't felt in parts, so I had to add some machine stitching with lime thread - love this!!

Here's another work in progress - a nuno piece all laid out:

I've got another couple of projects to photograph, so stay tuned for more felting from me :)

I just felt like it.

I've been wanting to try felting for a long time. Years. So when my friend Greta asked if anyone was interested in doing a workshop, I jumped at the chance. My other good friend Jo was also interested, so last Saturday was the day  we went along to the magical studio of Elizabeth Armstrong.

I arrived right on 10am, so we got straight to work. My first decision for the day was to choose a skein of wool - OH NO! It was almost too hard.  My hands were flapping I tell ya! This is what I had to choose from:

Can you see the problem I had? They are ALL beautiful - how was I going to choose? And that's when Elizabeth said "Just think of this as your first one" and then I relaxed and picked the colourful one in the middle on the fourth row. Not colours I'd normally go for, but I was out of my usual zone anyway.

We had so much fun!  Here's a shot of the three of us with our finished pieces:

And here's a close up of my felt and flower:

Elizabeth was a wonderfully patient, knowledgeable teacher, and I look forward to taking more workshops with her in the very near future.
