Darkroom Door Sunshine Stencil Layout

Hi folks!

I scrapped! I saw the new Sunshine Stencil from Darkroom Door and knew it would make the perfect background for a layout:

 

I also used the Patchwork Butterfly Collage Stamp and a few others to complete the layout:

Tropical Birds stamps

Keeping with the tropical theme, Darkroom Door has released another awesome stamp set called Tropical Birds. I have a couple of cards to share using this set.

First up is the flamingo image. I stamped the bird using Distress Oxide inks then smudged the lines around a little using a waterbrush. This resulted in a perfectly soft feathery look:

I added some clear Nuvo Drops over the grass to help  give a bit of a wet look:

The next stamp I used was the toucan with its bright colourful bill:

To emphasise the bright colour of the bill, I attached a bunch of bright ribbons to the top left hand side:

Tropical Island stamps

Howdy folks! Welcome to a brand new year. I hope it's a good one for you.

I'm sharing some cards I made using Darkroom Door's new stamp set called Tropical Island. This set has some super cool palm tree images and some words to go along with them.

This stamp set gave me a perfect opportunity to create some sunset backgrounds with Distress Oxide inks:

Fish Wishes Card Set

Howdy folks! I have another video to share that I made using products from Craftie Cafe. I made a set of cards using a Memory Box stamp set and some Distress Oxide Inks:

This set of stamps  is the 'shadows' and the outlines are available separately. I chose the shadows because I can blend the Distress Oxide colours so well on the solid stamps.

Lawn Fawn Unicorn Baby Cards

Hi folks! I'm back with another couple of baby cards for Craftie Cafe.

This time I have used the Winter Unicorn stamp and die from Lawn Fawn to make a card for a baby girl:

then it was a simple matter of swapping out some of the colours to make it into a boy card:

New Christmas Quote stamp from Darkroom Door

Darkroom Door have released another cute little quote stamp in time for Christmas crafting.

What a fun font! For my first sample, I have stamped this onto a gel printed background, then embossed with gold embossing powder:

 

You can see a little hint of the small Circles Stencil in the background there in blue:

 For my next project, I decided this stamp would be fabulous on a tag:

 and if you're making one, you'd might as well make many:

Here's how they came together:

Step 1
Scrape turquoise acrylic paint onto a gang of white tags using a palette knife or credit card. Leave lots of white space:

Step 2
Lightly sponge magenta acrylic paint through a stencil, concentrating on the white spaces left by the turquoise paint:

Step 3
Once this has dried well, separate the tags from each other and apply an antistatic pad, then stamp the quote using Embossing Ink. Emboss with gold embossing powder.

Step 4
Attach some coordinating lace trim under the quote. I used a sewing machine, but you could use glue, staples or a strong double sided tape.

Good Luck Shaker Card

Hiya crafty friends!

I have a card to share that I made using products from Craftie Cafe:

I used Ken Oliver's Color Burst Powders (well, one in particular - Terre Verte), an Avery Elle die called Horizontal Stripes, and another die from Memory Box called Lucky Charms.

Here's a close up so you can see the Lucky Charms - all the little clover shapes I die cut from green cardstock to pop into the shaker:

You can also see the awesome effect of the Color Burst Powders - all of the Earthtone powders have little pops of other colours in them - see the red, yellow and blue in the photo above?

Wedding card with MFT stamps

Hi folks!

The Craftie Cafe team are featuring Wedding and congratulations cards this month. Using some really cute My Favorite Things stamps and dies, I created this wedding card:

 

 Here's the stamp set and matching dies:

 

I often deliberate about buying the matching dies - some images are pretty easy to cut out with scissors, but when they're even slightly complicated, I always add the matching dies to my cart.

Here's how the card came together:

Step 1

I stamped a couple of the dog images from the Top Dog stamp set using a waterproof ink onto some mixed media cardstock. I have some Distress Inks and a waterbrush ready to go.

Step 2
I like to work small areas at a time, wetting it lightly with my waterbrush, then adding small amounts of colour at a time and allowing it to spread in the water. I used Pumice Stone ink for the dog bodies, Tattered Rose to add some colour to the cheeks, Festive Berries for the hearts and Lucky Clover for the bow and scarf. When these were dry I cut the shapes out using the corresponding dies. I just cut the hearts by hand with scissors.

Step 3
I created a background using Broken China ink - smooshing the ink pad onto an acrylic block, spritzing with water then smooshing it onto some watercolour paper. I repeated the process to add some variation and depth to the colour. I trimmed an 8 x 12cm piece for the background of the card, then used this edge piece with some scanty Broken China to stamp and die cut some clouds.

Step 4
One of the things I remember most about my wedding is all the photos that were taken. I thought it would be fun to add a polaroid frame to my card, so I cut a rectangle from white cardstock, then cut a window out of it with a square die:

Once I had most of my pieces stamped, die cut and ready to roll, I added some foam mounting tape to the back and assembled everything onto the background piece:

Step 6
Of course, there's too many elements to have them all fit into the polaroid frame, so I find it fun to have some components overlapping and overhanging the edge of the borders. Here's one of the dogs with its front paws sitting over the frame, and its behind protruding beyond the background piece:

Step 7
The bottom of the polaroid frame gave me some room for a sentiment so I used the Lawn Fawn Big Scripty Words stamp and die set  to create the 'congrats' sentiment:

If you look really closely, you can see that I have had to label my Big Scripty Words dies because I was having trouble identifying them. I did this with a permanent marker - now I have no trouble choosing the correct die....as long as I can find my glasses LOL.

Stamped Background made with Little Stamps

Hello crafty friends!

Today I'm sharing a card and wrapping paper set I made using all those little stamps that come in sets that I never know what to do with:

Mother's Day Cards for Craftie Cafe

Hi folks! I have a couple of cards to share today that I made for Craftie Cafe. There's even a video showing how I put them together!

Here are the cards:

They are essentially made using the same techniques, just different colours. The blue one was make using Cracked Pistachio, Broken China and Faded Jeans Distress Oxide inks over some black embossing:

 and this one was made with Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide inks over gold embossing:

Gift Card Holder Card for Craftie Cafe

Hi folks! It's my first post as part of the Craftie Cafe design team, and I'm excited to bring you an idea for Mother's Day that's coming up in a couple of weeks:

That's a gift card holder I made using a Lawn Fawn die and some funky watercolour patterned paper I made using Distress Oxide inks stuck to the front of a card - great for the mum who likes to make her own choices for gifts, or for those of us who have their subtle-as-a-sledgehammer hints ignored and have to go out and buy their own gifts.

I have included a complete supplies list at the end. Here are the steps:

Step 1
Here's the Small Stitched Envelope die set together with a selection of Distress Oxide inks.

 

Step 2

Apply a little ink from each pad to a craft sheet, spritz with water then press some white cardstock into it. Dry each colour before applying the next:

 

Step 3

Once the cardstock is dry, cut out the envelope using the die. It cuts cute little stitching around the edge as well as scoring along the lines that need to be folded to create the envelope.

 

Step 4

Apply some double sided tape to the inner tabs to create the envelope:

 

Step 5

Insert the gift card, special note or cash into the envelope before tying it shut. You can see here what I will be getting for Mother's Day from me:

 

Step 6

I wanted to add a watercolour patterned layer to the card, so I watercoloured just the edges of a 10 x 14.3 cm piece of cardstock. This not only saves ink but also time as I have less of an area to dry off.

 

Step 7

Die cut some of the words and hearts from a scrap of watercoloured cardstock, and adhere in place on a 9.5 x 13.8 cm piece of white card using a glue pen.

 

Step 8

Layer the 9.5 x 13.8 cm piece to the watercoloured edge piece, then onto the front of a white card. Apply some foam mounting tape to the back of the assembled envelope and adhere to the card front.

 

Here's a close up of the envelope in place on the card:

 and here's the finished card again. Surely I won't have to write it and address it to myself?
