Kraft with bling

The challenge this week at The Kraft Journal is bling.  I have loads of bling (I bet a lot of us have!).  Here's my card:

 

I used some Basic Grey paper, Kaiser adhesive diamonds in yellow, orange Bazzill cardstock (debossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder), and a Hero Arts stamp. It's all assembled on a layer of kraft cardstock and then a white card. Here's a close up:

I love that the Bazzill texture is still there after debossing :)

This card came together in less than half an hour - now that makes me happy (it's a rare event for me!).

Beach Boy

Here's my layout for this fortnight's challenge at The Studio Challenges:

If Blogger is behaving, you'll be able to click the pictures to make them bigger.  

The theme is 'frames' and I've used a couple of chipboard frames and a frame stamp under the title.

I embossed the large chipboard frame with my Cuttlebug, then painted it with a few layers of acrylic paint, finishing it off with white and a wash of brown (it's pooling in some areas of the embossing).

 The paper is from Pink Paislee, and I added to the background a little by stamping some Darkroom Door Seashells and spraying with some Walnut Colour Spray from Twiddleybitz. Also from Twiddleybitz is the Oriental Border, behind which I've put some stained gauze. The little alpha stamps I used at the bottom are also Darkroom Door.

Hip to be square

Where did that week go in between posts??? I know I've been busy creating, but it appears I just haven't made it back here to show things off. I'll have some things to catch up on this week I think.

Anyway, this week's theme at The Kraft Journal is 'Hip to be Square.'  Here's my project:

 

The card base is white, the next layer is kraft, and the next layer is fabric from one of my favourite tops (I couldn't bear to throw it away, but it got to a point I just couldn't wear it anymore).  The rest of the card is just odds and ends - a feather, some buttons, pearls etc) I had lying around on my desk.  This was so much fun to make!

Here's a side view so you can see just how dimensional it is. Luckily I chose some really sturdy white cardstock, or this baby would have some trouble standing up.

Must be love...

Love is the theme this week at The Kraft Journal.  Here's my card:

I used kraft cardstock (of course), with some Basic Grey patterned paper from the June Bug range - an oldie but a goodie. Plus anyone who knows me knows how much I love polka dots ;) The alpha is cut from some Cuttlebug dies, and the hearts are a Cuttlekids die (who ever said they were only for kids LOL!). I used a circle punch for the 'o', and popped some of the patterned paper behind it after roughing up the edges.

Another invitation to tea

Back again to show you the card I made with the new teacup piece from Twiddleybitz:

I used the same technique on the teacup that I used on the teapot  - all explained on this post here.  I just added a little bit of copper Krylon pen along the lip of the cup.  Here's a close up:

Once again I used Girl's Paperie patterned papers, teamed with a Martha Stewart border punch.  The teeny tiny little flowers I bought from Art Stamps Australia at a Paperific Show a couple of years ago.

I'm a little teapot....

Check out this cute piece that's new from Twiddleybitz - a teapot!

 I painted it with gesso, then hot pink acrylic paint, then ran it through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. I sanded back the tops of the dots to expose the brown chipboard and then coated the whole thing with Dimensional Magic.

A whole day later, it was ready to pop onto a card:

I used a similar treatment for the word 'Invitation' (another new piece from Twiddleybitz) - don't they look juicy? 

I used Girl's Paperie patterned paper. This would have to be my favourite range of 2010 -  I'd love to hear what your favourite range was.

The Studio Challenges - February colour challenge

I was pulled out of my comfort zone for this one - here's the challenge:

Yeah - NO pink or red for a love themed layout! To make things harder, I chose a photo of my daughters - I always associate them with red and pink. 

I grabbed some Sassafras Lass papers, alpha stickers and brads (the colours were perfect for the challenge!), some Twiddleybitz chipboard fern leaves, and my Sizzix Tattered Florals die, and off I went.  Here's what happened:

I added the journaling with a green pen, and then the top left hand corner looked a little stark, so I used my Martha Stewart border punch and stitched some scraps of paper with my sewing machine. I added some little white dots to the alpha with a white gel pen to lift the dark green letters just a little.  You should be able to click on the pic above to make it bigger if you'd like more detail.

Kraft little critters....

This week's challenge at The Kraft Journal was 'Groundhog or Little Critters.'  Here's my card:

I used some chipboard stickers from Sassafras Lass, twill tape and baker's twine tied with a wired rose. The stamps are from Papermania.

The sentiment says "on your special day," so I can use it for just about anything, including my daughter's first day of school tomorrow. I don't know who's more excited - her or me!!

Here's a shadow box I made with some more new pieces from Twiddleybitz:

This a photo of Jake and Lou, walking down some steps at Erskine Falls. I used one of the new 6x6 shadow boxes, covered in moss to fit in with all of the foliage that frames the photo. I painted the mushrooms with acrylic paints, and then coated them with Dimensional Magic. This had to dry overnight, and it does no good to get impatient with Dimensional Magic (you can just guess at how I acquired that knowledge!).

I used some Crackle Paint on the word - you can just make out the crackle in the photo above. The crackle paint and moss gave the whole piece a woodland, organic feel.  The box was put together with PVA glue - it's really the best bond for chipboard.

Twiddleybitz hits CHA

Yes! It's true - Twiddleybitz has crossed the Pacific and can now be found in the US and Canada. The distributor is Select Imports, and is at stand 4418 at CHA.

Here's a layout I made using some of the new pieces:

I coloured the lamp post and word black and then covered them with Dimensional Magic to make them shine. The fleur de lys and bird are painted with a silver paint, but I rubbed the paint in to make it duller. The scroll at the top is a Nero piece, so it's already black and ready to go.   That's a Darkroom Door photochip and stamp, and Webster's Pages patterned paper.

I put the little bird sitting in a ribbon nest:

 I haven't seen any photos of the Select Imports booth, so I don't know if this made it up on the wall, but it's nice to hope that it did.

This is the card I made for a 1, 2, 3 challenge with My Favorite Stamps.  Here's the Loveosaurus again LOL:

1 patterned paper (Basic Grey)
2 coloured cardstock (brown, red)
3 embellishments (scrunched seam binding, pearl brad, black adhesive pearls.

I paper pieced so that the Loveosaurus would be polka dotted, and coloured in his spiney things with Copics.  Here's a closer look:

I love these types of challenges - I always have fun with them.
