Arty box swap

These are my returns in a swap organised by Ness on ArtyOz (a yahoo group). We had to make one large and one small art box - this is a relatively new product from Collections.

These little works of art are by Jo.

I gasped when I saw the words at the bottom there - they are in Spanish, and I thought they were there by coincidence. I should have known - Jo had them there on purpose. She even knew that they meant "perils of the sea." I love the vintage pirate theme - isn't Jo brilliant?

This is the other box by Jo. She's used metal tape here and embossed it. I've always loved blue and silver together.

Thanks so much Jo - I'm utterly stoked with my returns.

When my recipient confirms that she has received the boxes I made for her, I'll show you what I came up with.

Boxing

This shadow box from Twiddleybitz is really easy to put together. And boy is it sturdy when it's done! I used some beautiful Graphic45 papers, and added a little message in a bottle, some twine and an old nib for a vintage look. A dragonfly painted gold finishes the whole thing off.

Thanks for looking!

August at Lime Tart

Sneak peeks of all the kits are up. Click here.

And even better, all of the kits are available for purchase here.

This is what I've got to play with this month:

I can't wait. My studio is rearranged (yeah - again) and ever so tidy. It's taken quite a few days, but now I'm ready to play. Grrrrr. Look out!

A cameo appearance

Here's an easy peasy card using the brand new VintageTweeny Bitz from Twiddleybitz. These are tiny little chipboard shapes that come in a set of six.

Quite simply, all I did was colour the chipboard with my black Copic marker, and mount it on a couple of oval shapes. Simple, but elegant I think.

I've always loved the combination of black and pale pink.

A vintage layout

Here's a layout I did of a vintage wedding photo using some more products from Twiddleybitz.

I used some Tweeny Bitz (Vintage and Various), a heart from Bag of Love and Cupid's Love Pair.

Coloured in black or gold, they're a quick and easy wasy to add a touch of vintage to a project.

The other half

...of the Home Sweet Home kit from Twiddleybitz. It's a wall hanging:

A bit of acrylic paint, a cuttlebug embossing folder (see the cloud), some copic markers, some Sassafras Lass patterned papers and some buttons and brads. Voila!

I actually cut the house in half, and mounted one half on top of the other to create some extra dimension.

This might be nice to have hanging at the entrance to your house, to welcome friends (and let people know you're into scrapbooking LOL). Networking, people. Just networking.

Twiddleybitz Guest Designer

I was fortunate a little while ago to be sent a wonderful parcel of Twiddleybitz goodies to play with. Over the next few days I'll be showing you what I made here on my blog. These projects will be on display at the Claremont Craft show from the 31st of July, so if you're in Perth you can pop in and say hello to Nicole and Andrew the owners of Twiddleybitz, as well as Sherry who will be teaching some classes.

This is a canvas I made using bits and pieces from the Home Sweet Home kit. I cut some patterned paper to size, machine stitched it, and then stuck it down to the canvas. (I thought I'd add that in, so that no one tries to sew the paper onto their canvas LOL).

I coloured the tree in with a Copic marker, the little birds with yellow acrylic paint, and I covered the hearts (from the Bag of Love set) in some patterned paper.

I coloured the word in with a black Copic marker, then used some Dimensional Magic for that luscious wet look. That word, in that finish makes my mouth water (I am an incorrigible sweet tooth).I've got another project I made with the remaining pieces of the Home Sweet Home kit to show in my next post, so come back in a day or two to see it. Thanks for looking!

I've been seduced..

....by Sarah's Inkurable Stampers challenge for this month. I don't know what it is about playing cards that is so seductive - could it be the colours, the designs, the fortunes won and lost....who knows!

Anyway, this is my contribution:

And here's a close up of the playing card bit:

Yeah - more of those quilled roses. See the face card design on the inside of the roses, and the reverse of the playing cards for the leaves. Just love those colours!

This is a little note to Donna and anyone else interested : quilled rose tutorial is coming, so stay tuned. Give me a week or so, and you too will be addicted to making these babies!

card tweetness

Here are a couple of birdy cards I made with a gorgeous set of Clear Art Stamps.

A friend of mine let me borrow her set while I decide on which set to purchase. Aren't they beautifully illustrated?

And of course, you all know how much I love birds LOL.

Tempting corset

This is my submission for the current Tempting Template call at Stamper's Sampler. It's a corset (if you're unfamiliar with this particular kind of undergarment/instrument of torture).

I used some Crate Paper from July's A la Tarte kit, some German scrap from Collage Stuff, and a couple of Odd Bird Planet stamps (Michelle's Big Scroll and Ooh la la). The pearls are Kaiser and the ribbon is from my ever increasing stash.

That rose is something I've learned to make recently. They're embarrassingly easy to make - a bit of cutting, a bit of quilling. LMK if you'd like a little demo/tutorial.

Very few words

I made this card with the A la Tarte kit from Lime Tart.

It's certainly not a card I'd use if I had a lot to say to someone - there's just not enough room to get too sentimental. Short and sweet - a card for a busy or semi-literate recipient. Yep - I cater for just about everyone.

You can see more work with the Lime Tart kits in this month's gallery.

Viva la Flora

I recently participated in a swap hosted by Rachel Greig from Darkroom Door. We had to use an item from their Viva la Flora range. Here's my offering:

I used stamps from the Viva la Flora Vol 2 set, plus an image from the Viva la Flora montage. There's some German scrap, Kindy glitz, screen door mesh and gauze there too, as well as some machine stitching.

Everyone's work will appear in a gallery on the DRD website - I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Love this card

I made this card with the A la Tarte kit from Lime Tart.

I kept it simple - I love these colours together. A bit of brown ink sponged on edges, machine stitching and that gorgeous butterly stamp from StampIt, and it was done.

You can see more work with the Lime Tart kits in this month's gallery.

Lime Tart gallery

July's gallery is now open for you to drool over. Click on the picture below and you'll be there in a jiffy:
The work in there is awesome, even if I do say so myself ;)

Pirate princess

Here's a card for a Pirate Princess:

I used stamps from Odd Bird Planet (Lovely Skull and Bones, Rock and Roll, Swirly Background). I attached the words to the image with a couple of silver jump rings so that it hangs. Here's a pic to show you what I mean:

My son Jake liked it, except for all the pink. He also offered a bunch of other suggestions to make this card a little more masculine. I'll work with those suggestions and come back and show you.
I'll miss his advice when he goes back to school next week LOL.

Boy card

I always find it hard to make cards for boys. This is one I made for Jake's mate Nathan (hence the letter n on it):

Kraft cardstock (boy am I loving this stuff ATM!), Collections chipboard brackets and star, Basic Grey Boxer paper, ribbon (that jutey stuff anyway) from my stash, and the sticker letter is from Making Memories Fa la la range. I also added a strip of the paper to the inside of the card.

After spending ages designing and making the card, this bit always makes me nervous:

He did great! Even with me breathing down his neck and taking pictures. Yeah - my kids do have a lot to put up with LOL.

Hang on....

I had a play with some new Collections coathangers, and made some samples for a class at Little Bits. Here's what we made:

The large one:

the medium size:

and the teeny one:
I reckon they're pretty cute in their own right, but I might attach some clips to the large one and hang a layout or card from it. I have a photo of my late uncle lined up for the medium one too. If I'm going to own them, they might as well be useful eh?

Thanks for looking!

July sketch

This is the card sketch at My Sketch World for July:

And here's my card:Dr Suess is usually too cerebral (?) for this little duck, but I really get this quote:

Paper and jute ric rac are from the Feb 09 Half Tart kit from Lime Tart.

Yet another card and ATC set

This card/ATC set is for Clare from our ATC group:

I used Sassafras Lass paper and journalling blocks from a die cut sheet, Savvy HB stamp, a pearl headed pin and some ribbon/trim from my stash. That's an American Crafts letter C - from the people who brought us thickers.

Boxed in

I just love these little Art Boxes from Collections. The possibilities are endless. I made a couple of boxes using the new Graphics 45 papers that are just in at Little Bits. Check them out:

These together with the ones I made at SIA this year (click here) are the samples for a class I'll be teaching at Little Bits.

Thanks for looking.
